So here I am about to start my second week at my new store with my new job. How it’s going so far? I’d say pretty well given the circumstances. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done in that department, and I know it’s going to be a struggle getting everyone on the same page. But then again, if I was walking into a department that was perfect and ran itself I think I would be bored out of my mind!
Today is my last closing shift for the week. For those of your keeping score at home, this will be my 5th closing shift since I started there. I have only worked 7 shifts at my new store. You do the math.
This week looks to be a fairly straight forward one. I close tonight, have a mid-shift tomorrow, open on Wednesday, then I’m off to Vestal, NY for an all day training class on Thursday, and finally I get to have a day off on Friday. Then unfortunately I get to work the entire weekend, but that’s okay. At least I get a day off before then.
Yesterday was a pretty nice day off for me. The weather was nice enough to cooperate with my plans for getting the yards cut. Usually with the first cut of the year comes my annual fight with my machinery. No matter how I try, I just don’t seem to be machine compatible. If it has a spark plug, it hates me. This year however was most certainly the exception to the rule. Aside from having to renew my fuel sources, everything started up without incident. About 45 minutes later, the yards were completely trimmed and cut. Viola!
Today is another story however. It’s cold, damp, windy, and rainy outside. It’s one of those days where you just want to throw a box set into the DVD player and not leave the couch. Hell, the dog doesn’t even want to go outside to go to the bathroom. I can’t say I blame the pooch. I myself am not looking forward to going out there in about 2 1/2 hours to head work. I really wish my job had a telecommuting option on days like today.
