I’m Going To Be A Daddy!

A lot has happened since my last post. The biggest and most significant thing being that Jess and I found out that we are going to parents. That’s right! Jess and I are going to have a baby this coming October.

Apparently Jess had suspected she might be pregnant for the 2 weeks, but didn’t want to say anything. Then last Saturday morning, while I was still in bed, she woke up and took a pregnancy test. According to her, it came back with a positive result immediately. She wasn’t sure if/how she was going to tell me. So, I wake up about an hour later and as I normally do, stumble into the computer room and check my email. While there, Jess come up to me and tells me to close my eyes because she has a surprise for me. It was still a week away from Valentine’s Day so it couldn’t be a present. Plus I didn’t smell her cooking anything so I surmised that it couldn’t be breakfast. Totally mystified, I obeyed and closed my eyes. When I told to open them I looked on my desk and there was a pregnancy test wrapped in a blue ribbon. I looked at it and saw 2 very distinct lines, indicating a positive result. I was ecstatic and shocked. When Jess looked at me with tears of joy in her eyes the only word I could muster was “Cool”. She looked at me with horrifying shock. I could tell she wasn’t at all impressed with my commentary on the whole event. She then asked me if I was happy. I told her I was of course happy but was a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

Between you and me I think this makes up for her reaction when I presented her with an engagement ring and asked for her hand in marriage.

Needless to say we are both ecstatic and have been in the throes of baby planning ever since. In fact, we have been working for the past week to clear out the computer room to make it the baby’s room.

In an effort to do so, we spent yesterday, Valentine’s day, in Philadelphia doing some shopping. We stopped at Ikea and I ended up buying a new mobile workstation to replace my desk. The desk I have is 6ft long and I have been using it for the past 14 years. With the baby on the way, we need the room but have no other room to put the computers. So, as a compromise with our unborn child, we all have agreed to split the space.
This requires me to condense. I found a nice little 30” workstation and took this afternoon to assemble it and move my Mac and PC to it. This would all be fine under normal circumstances but I woke up this morning sick as a dog. But, I endured and got the job done. Next on my list is to clean out and disassemble my old desk, which is just going to have to wait until another day.

On a side note, our Valentine’s Day was just…well…horrific. I won’t go into too many details but let’s just say we’ve agreed to a do-over next weekend. ‘Nuff said.
