Fueling My Inner Geek

It’s funny how little things can ignite a fire in your inner geek. Yesterday, it was the announcement that the new Star Trek movie was going to be released simultaneously in regular theaters and in IMAX. This news got me so excited that I literally called my wife in from the living room to show her the news. I then immediately played the new trailer with Spock as loud as I could.

Today, it was a simple picture form the upcoming Star Wars MMO ‘The Old Republic’ that fueled my fire.

I’ve always liked Star Wars, but as anyone will tell you, I’m a die hard Trek fan till the end. To give you some perspective, my guys and I all wore Star Trek: The Next Generation comm badges on our boutonnieres on our tuxes.

But for some reason, when I saw the glow of the lightsabers, I got excited about Star Wars again. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten excited about Star Wars. I’m glad I found out it still possible.

UPDATE:
I think picture of the lightsaber battle really reminded me of this.

A Moment In Time

I just had one of those moments that I will remember for years to come. I just got done playing Doom 3, when I got up to go to the bathroom. When I passed through the kitchen, I noticed a slight ‘fog’ outside. Knowing all too well that it’s too cold out for fog, I went to one of my living room windows for a closer look. I was correct in what I had originally suspected. It was snowing out. In fact, we have a nice little dusting out there already.

What really made the moment was when I realized it was indeed snowing. I got up from looking out the window, and the entire living room was lit by Christmas lights. The smell of the fresh baked cookies Jess made mere hours earlier wafted in from the kitchen. I had just got dome playing a video game, it’s snowing, the room where I discovered it was snowing was lit by only Christmas lights, the smell of fresh cookies filled the house, and I am off tomorrow. It’s one of those rare moments that for a micro-second, everything in the universe is great and you experience that perfect moment.

Out lives are filled with moments like these, and it’s important not to forget them. The shitty times far outweigh moments like these and it always those shitty times we tend to dwell on.

I know I’ll be remembering that moment for years to come when I think about Christmas and snow.

Starting What I Could Never FInish

I started playing Doom 3 again tonight. I’ve never made it very far into the game, and needless to say, have never completed the game.

Since I am off this weekend and am without vehicular transportation, I thought this might be a good opportunity to see how far I could get in one weekend.

See you in hell!

It’s Down To Dude #1 & #2

It would appear that it’s a dead heat between weather dude #1 and weather dude #2. So far, it hasn’t stopped raining once today. It was so bad, that I actually had lunch at the Roach Coach outside my store instead of going out in the monsoon.

Some say this will all freeze tonight and some day it won’t. Me? I really hope it all freezes and encases us so that I can have a nice 3 day weekend!

Headed Our Way

There’s a storm on it’s way, but no one can seem to agree what it will bring us.

The only consensus that everyone seems to agree on is that we will be getting precipitation — a lot of it.

Weather dude #1 says we’re going to get all rain.
Weather dude #2 says we’ll get rain, then it’ll turn to ice.
Weather dude #3 says we’ll get some rain, then ice, and then it’ll end up as a little snow.
Weather dude #4 says we’ll get some rain, quite a bit of ice, and then about 7 inches of snow.
Weather dude #5 says it’s going to be the fucking apocalypse and we’re all going to die!!!

Ok, maybe I made one of those up. No one is calling for all rain.

Back With A Makeover

Sorry about the serious lack of posts lately. As you know, the Holiday Season is a killer on your free time.

So what’s happened since Thanksgiving… Well, I did manage to get away from work long enough to kill me a deer. I got her on first day this year around 10:20am. She’s not the biggest doe I have ever gotten, but she’s a nice size and will keep us fed in steaks, chops and roasts until next season.

Speaking of season, not only are we officially in the ‘Christmas Season’, but we just pasted one of my wife’s favorite holidays — her birthday! She turned 26 this year and to celebrate she wanted to get out of town for the day. She ended up deciding on King of Prussia for the day to do some Christmas shopping. Not one to turn down a trip to King of Prussia, we gassed up the PT Cruiser and headed south for Philly. We had a great day down there walking around the malls and caught a most excellent dinner at The Cheesecake Factory.

Other than the aforementioned, not too much else has been going on. As you have no doubt noticed, I got bored with the theme for this site and worked on a new one tonight. I spent a lot of time on the last theme, but it never felt ‘right’ to me. It’s hard to explain how something doesn’t feel right, but that last theme just didn’t sit well with me.

For now, I am happy with this theme and will probably keep it for a while. With my short attention span though, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was changed by the weekend!
