Change — It’s Not Just A CNN Soundbite

For the first time in 7 long years, I feel like there might be a light at the end of this dark tunnel we’ve all been forced to travel down.

The fact that America puts its differences aside and spoke in an almost unified voice yesterday is not only inspiring, but Roddenberry-esque. We have elected not only the first black President of the United States, but we have elected someone who is for change. He’s not a crusty old white man or someone from a family fortune vested in oil, and God Bless Him, someone who can talk in complete, rational sentences without making up new words along the way.

This is the first time in my life that we have elected a President who is older then myself, but younger than my parents. That inspires hope that for the first time ever, a small voice coming from my generation will be heard.

Change doesn’t come easy, especially the changes we so desperately need. We’ve spiraled into this abyss very quickly, and it’s going to take more than 4 years to get us back to where we need to be. But yesterday, America showed up something we haven’t seen in over a generation — we spoke out for unity, peace, and change.
