Trash Talkin’

Bertman and I have been playing quite a bit of Mortal Kombat online lately. However, something has been missing.

Trash talk.

Now, the game is compatible with certain USB headsets. I’ve been looking locally, but they’re around $30.

Enter eBay.

So, I scored 2 headsets for Bertman and I tonight for less then $20 a piece. Not too shabby…

Getting The Itch

It’s been a few months, and I’m starting to get the itch to change up the site again.

I’m not as to what kind of design, but the sire feels stagnant.

I’m thinking about going back to something similar in feeling to my blue design that debuted in November 2002. I think I want something with a dynamic header that I can change very easily on the fly. I also like the simplicity of the navigation. I feel like I have too much in my sidebars. The most expendable thing to take out was my LastFM album quilt. The next thing that may say goodbye is my Amazon.com book link, and possibly even my Google AdSense banners. I’m not making as much as I used to, so I have to sit down and question from a design standpoint if such a large skyscraper is really necessary.

I’m taking an extra 2 days off after we get back from the beach to relax and decompress a bit before going back to work. I think I may have to sit down for a few hours and mock something up.

In other non-geek news, Jess and I went to see ‘Superbad’ tonight before going out for some sushi. Everyone had told me this was a must see and I must agree with them. Although to be fair, I think my favorite part was before the movie even came on. The showed the teaser trailer for ‘The Dark Knight’ before the film.

I had a geekgasm.

Sunday After The Blood

The Bertman and I were finally able to get together for a few hours last night to pummel each other in a contest known as Mortal Kombat. It’s literally been years since he and I have gotten together and played MK. And let me tell you, not much has changed.

I kicked his ass quite efficiently the first half of the night, and he was quick to return the favor by handing me mine the second half of the night. After the beatings, we decided to take our fight online and see what we could do. The matches online we’re as bad as some as we’ve faced, but people still tend to be cheap online. We did find one player however that seemed to be on par with our skill level. I played this person for 3 matches, finally winning the last match and securing my first online victory. Bertman played the same person for 3 rounds, but unfortunately I am unable to remember if he won or not. It was around that time that Jess came home and I was asking her how her night at work was and not paying attention to his match.

I’m sure he’ll let me know if he won or lost.

Today he’s at home all day watching his little girl, so I may have to hop online later and see if he’s available for a little rematch.

That is, after I get down with cutting the yards and getting some housework done.

As for me right now, it’s time to get off the couch, make some lunch, and then get this day started.

9am

You know you’re getting old when you consider getting up at 9am sleeping in. On the weekend I usually wouldn’t even consider getting up before noon. This morning, I was up at 4:15am without an alarm, and forced myself to go back to sleep until 9am.

Yep, I’m getting older.

Weekend Off

I finally have a weekend off. Granted, I had last weekend off, but I spent 12 hours in a car and in New York trying not to beat the living shit out of a drunk, abusive asshole.

To be honest, I really can’t remember the last weekend I had off to myself. Granted, I have things to do like cut the yards, shampoo the carpets, and some general cleaning, but it’s not like I have to travel or go to work.

Also, I finally get to sleep in a bit!

Right now I am making some dinner before starting to play some Mortal Kombat Armageddon. The Bertman got his PS2 online, so I think we’re going to try and get some online carnage going on tonight.

Well, back to making dinner.

Mortal Kombat

After texting with Bertman all day about Mortal Kombat and our upcoming MK Day 2, I just had to come home and play some MK. To satisfy my need, I called up on the services of my Playstation 2 and Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

It was glorious.

I also stopped on the way home and picked up some binders and a new 3 hole punch from Staples. I have started to print out every move list and FAQ for all the Mortal Kombat games I have access to and organizing them in the binders.

I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance to play too much more tonight, but I am off this coming weekend and I plan on wearing my thumbs down to the bone.

Escape From New York

Well, we have returned from Jess’s grandmother’s house. It was about a 6 hour drive up there, and about another 6 hour drive home.

What a treat.

Her grandmother got most of Jess’s “extended family” together for a picnic on Saturday. It was a most interesting time. Don’t get me wrong, most of the people I met there was nice.

Most of them.

However, the was a couple there that were complete assholes. They literally beat their kids, we very “back woods”, and had nothing nice to say about Loki. They would let their kids run around and do whatever they want, and then when something bad happened (and it always did) they blamed the kids and who ever was close to them. The “boyfriend” and I got into it once or twice over Loki, and I eventually left with him to an upstairs bedroom until they left.

Let me clarify though that I was not asked to leave. If I had stayed any longer this guy and I would have gone toe-to-toe and that was not appropriate for the place and time. I love Jess’s grandmother and she did not deserve a scene like that. So, I decided to be the bigger man and just walk away. It was nice to find out the next morning that she can’t stand that prick either. Go grandma!

So now that we’re home, we’re in laundry mode. We’ve got 2 loads done already, and have about 2 more to go.

While waiting for the dryer to stop, I’m watching ‘Cranky Geeks’ on TiVo and Jess is making some spinach and artichoke dip for us. Isn’t she a great wife?!

In fact, she just told me it’s all done, so we’re going to have a nice snack while watching ‘Feasting on Asphalt’.

Later…
