Progressed

Today was a very good, yet very bad day. Let me explain.

My day literally started off with Loki eating my glasses. Since I am literally blind without my glasses, I had to call off and call upon my mother to take me to get new glasses.

For those of you keeping score, this is my second pair of glasses in 6 months.

Anyway, it took a little over 2 hours to get my glasses, which means I ended up getting my glasses around 2:30pm.

Since I called upon mu mother to take me to Lenscrafters to get my glasses, I had her drop me off at Target since Jess was getting off at 3pm. That was a blessing and a mistake. I ended up buying an Alton Brown DVD pack, and a progressive scan upscaling DVD player at Circuit City.

I have to say up front that I do not regret either purchase. I’ve already watched 1 DVD out of the 3 DVD Alton Brown pack, and right now I am watching ‘Clerks II’ for the second night in a row. Last night when I watched it, it was full-screen on my HDTV, but the asprect ratio was off. Now that I have an upscaling progressive scan DVD player, DVDs now fill my entire LCD HDTV. It is truly wonderful.

I will fully admit that I am totally drunk, and if none of this makes any sense I totally apologize. All I know right now is that my DVDs now look totally kick ass on my HDTV and I am very happy. Plus, the 500gb drive I ordered on Wednesday night arrived today.

Right now, life is great.

CRASHED!!!

This really has been the week from hell.

Not only is everything at work going to complete and total shit, but I’ve had a major computer crash as well.

It all started yesterday when I wanted to burn a Beastie Boys CD to listen to on the way to work. When I turned on my monitors to burn the disc, my 250gb drive that I have my MP3s on wasn’t there. I thought that was odd and rebooted it. When it rebooted, it found the drive, but Windows wanted to do an integrity check. It was showing corrupted file after corrupted file. I was scared since very little on that drive is backed up, so I grabbed a copy of Spin Rite and threw it in. It did a quick scan and told me the drive was in immenant failure. Not good. So, long story short, I ordered a 500gb drive to replace it last night. It should get here on Monday and then we go into full data recovery mode.

Why can’t it be Friday night so I can get drunk and forget about this god awful week?

New Telly

Well, it would seem that our TV isn’t as well as I thought it was. This past Tuesday, our main TV crapped out on me. I was watching TV, and all of the sudden, the screen went black. Sound was still there but no picture. I though it was the cable, but when I changed inputs, you didn’t even see the old “Video 1″ in the top right hand corner. Prognosis: picture tube. So, being a guy, I started hitting the TV. This of course, as anyone who’s eve experienced a bad tube first hand, brought the picture back after a few hits. This happened a few mote times that evening, and I ended up calling Jess letting her know that we’d better start thinking about a new TV. We talked about it for a few minutes, and without me even suggesting anything, she said that I should start shopping for one, and since the one we have is old, I should look for a nice HDTV.

This was again one of those moments when I knew I married the right woman.

So I shopped online for a bit and then went around to some local stores. I found one that I really liked in both size and cost, and as a bonus, it was at Target so we could get Jess’s discount. But then of course, as things would have it, the TV went back to being normal. A blessing in disguise since I didn’t want to put out a few hundred dollars right before our trip to England. Don’t get me wrong though. I’m not mad at my TV since I really don’t owe it anything. It’s a 9 year old 27″ Panasonic I got way back in the days when I was peddling electronics for Sears. It’s had 9 years of VHS (yes, that’s how old it is!), DVD, TV, and video gaming hours on it. All in all, it’s been a great TV and I owe it nothing.

Well, the TV once again started acting up yesterday. And again today. So, Jess and I talked, and she found out that the TV is going on sale next week for almost $200 off normal price, so it looks like that we will be picking up a new TV next week. I have to admit, that as much as I don’t want to spend the money, I am a little excited to get a new TV.

Here’s the TV that we are most likely getting.

Olevia 37

It’s a 37″ (37!) Olevia LCD HDTV. Granted, it is between this one and 2 other at the moment, but for the price, I think we are probably going to go with this one. Either way, it’s a nice upgrade from my 27″ tube set that only shows a picture when it wants to!
