2006 – A Year In Review

2006 was really a roller coaster year for me. There were some really good times, and there were some really bad times. I’m not going to dwell too much on the good or the bad, but just reflect on the year as a whole.

For me, 2006 went by way too fast. Most of it had to do with all of the wedding planning that constantly needed to get done, having i/o Computers finally come into its own, and getting a new job at work. All of these things too my already tidy life and put it in a blender set to *SMASH*.

Although I will have to say that all of the highlights of this year involved very good and close friends.

Four little kittens that were born under my bed that grew up way too quickly.

My wedding was a time that I will never forget and wish I could relive everyday.

My bachelor party is something that I think I will never remember and wish I could since I was told I had a great time.

Our honeymoon was a wonderful getaway, with enough chaos and shit thrown in there to truly make it a Twevman trip.

To me, this is how I’m going to remember 2006. In truth, the year was almost entirely about our wedding. From planning, to frustration, to having pretty much the prefect day. And if the above is the only thing I ever remember about 2006, then it truly was a good year.

Let’s see what 2007 has to offer…

I’ve Fallen…

I bought something tonight that I swore I would never buy.

You see, I am a recovering addict. I’ve been clean now for about 2 years. In fact, Jess helped clean me up quite a bit.

But now I’m back on the sauce. Except this time I’m on something a lot harder than my previous narcotic of choice.

From the word on the street, this stuff hooks you a lot quicker than the old smack. And it hooks you good…like ruin your life good.

My name is Trevor Shafer, and I am a recovering EverQuest addict.

My name is Trevor Shafer, and I just bought World of Warcraft.

My name is Trevor Shafer, and you may never see me again.

Christmas Eve

So here it is, Christmas Eve 2006. I know it’s only been here for about 3 hours, but it’s still a bit of a head trip to think how fast 2006 went by. Christ, it seems like only a few months ago Jess and I put a deposit down on her engagement ring, and that was back in October of 2005!

I pulled a wallpaper out of the archives for Christmas this year. This was made for the Christmas of 2003 I believe, back when the primary domain for this site was Twev1701.com. In going through the archive of all the wallpapers I have published in the past, it was funny to look through them all. Looking at each wallpaper, I could instantly tell you what my life was like back them. Who I liked, what I was into at the time, and what my goals were. This got me a bit nostalgic, so I started reading some of my archives. I read a few months worth, and I started getting envious of my old life. Time when I would come home from work, play some games, work on the site and do whatnot. I found myself wishing for those days back, and how I couldn’t do those things now.

And then I had to ask myself why I couldn’t do those things.

There is no logical reason why I cannot do those things. Sure, the games thing may be hard with some other things I have on my plate right now, but it’s not impossible. Hell, I played Castlevania on my DS today for well over an hour why I re-install Windows on a machine. There is no reason I cannot do these things…I just have to make the time.

So, with that in mind, I decided to finally change a few things on the site. Granted, these are minor things, but these are all things building towards something. Eventually, in a few months, there’s going to be a complete re-deign again. This time however, it’s going to be from the ground up. This means that I am going to create a theme from scratch this time, and not just modify someone else’s theme. Basically, I am going to do with CSS what I used to do with HTML. This is something I have never really done before, and should be quite an experience.

But, until that time comes, you’ll just have to live with some modified tabs at the top of the page and a new header image.

I know I should be getting to bed since Jess’s alarm is going off right now. (she has to leave for work by 4:50am) Up until this point, I have not been tired. Today was literally the first day in about 3 weeks that I was able to sleep in properly. Granted, a few years ago that meant waking up around the noon time hour, but sadly with me getting up every morning at 5am, sleep until 10am is more than enough extra sleep for me.

Tonight is sushi and present night, and I had better get to be to be well rested. Later…

Christmas Vacation

Starting yesterday at 3pm, I am officially off from work until Tuesday morning at 6am. It’s actually a nice feeling to have 3 days off in a row knowing that I get paid for it all. Today will be spent wrapping up a few last minutes things, getting JP’s final present complete, and tying up some loose ends. Tomorrow shall be a day of video games, followed by a nice sushi dinner with Jess, then some presents with my family, and then more presents with Jess and I at home. All in all, it should be a nice 3 day vacation.

Being Hurt Sucks!!

Well, I did it again. I hurt my back at work last Wednesday. I pulled the thorasic and lumbar regions of my back. In other words, I pulled everything from the base of my shoulder blades down. Needless to say, I have been, and still am in, a lot of pain.

In fact, this is the first time I have been on the computer at all since Tuesday night. No email, not posting, no nothing since then. It’s not because I didn’t want it, it’s the fact that I couldn’t stand being in the chair long enough to get anything done.

I feel good enough today to try and get a little bit of work done. What that equates to is answering some email, and making a post. Whoop-de-do!

As for me, I think I’m going to go back to my nice soft couch and play my new game that I got to help keep my sanity, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. It rocks!!

My Brain Is Fried

I don’t what it is today, but my brain is totally gone. I had a really hard time concentrating and keeping track of things at work today. And even right now, my mind is just mush.

On a brighter note, I did finally manage to put up my Christmas lights tonight. I wasn’t sure if I was going to have time to put them up this year, but I decided today on the way home from work that it’s just not Christmas without Christmas light. You can check out a pic or two of them over at the moblog.

Well, apparently I can’t type for shit tonight either, so I think it’s time to go put on some comfy pajama pants and a nice warm shirt, and lay on the couch and watch some Stargate SG-1. Later…

The Waiting Game

That pretty much sums up my day so far. I dedicated this weekend to working on a website i/o Computers got contracted to do, and the design is all up to how the logo turns out. So, I finished up what I thought was a great logo this morning, and sent it to the client with 2 other logos for approval. I finished it up this morning and sent it off to the clients. That was bout 6 hours ago. I need to get some input before I go any further, so for now, I am in a permanent holding pattern. In fact, I even did some Christmas shopping online and got some gifts for JP and Jess.

And so the wait continues….
