Upgrade Complete

The backend upgrade went off without a hitch last night, however, the frontend upgrade is going to take some time.

I was looking at various themes last night, but the ones that had the type of layout I was looking for, lacked the features I wanted. The same was true when I found a theme that had all the features I wanted — the layout sucked.

Knowing that I would have to do a little mix & matching, I started opening up the files that made up the themes and looked at the code. That’s when my headache started. To get what I want, I have to delve into 4 different languages — HTML, PHP, CSS, and AJAX. Now, I know HTML pretty damn good, a wee bit about PHP, and just a bit of CSS. So, as you can tell, this is going to be a total learning experience for me.

To be honest, I’m not sure when the new frontend will be ready, let alone uploaded. This is one of the advantages of having your own web server at home, I can code and test everything locally before uploading all the finished files to the ye old interweb.

I’ll keep you posted on the progress of the coding.

Site Funky-ness

The site may be a little wonkey tonight and tomorrow as I’m in the process of changing a few things. I just got done upgrading the backend, and now it’s time to start upgrading the front end of things. So, if you come here and it looks like it puked up something soft and furry, just wait. It’ll get better!!

Taking A Ride Down Memory Lane

Tonight I went over The Bertman’s house to install a new DVD writer for him. On the way there, I took an old route I used to take when I would go visit my friend Chris who’s parent’s live about 2 blocks away. The air tonight was warm and humid, bringing back memories of old.

On the way over all I could remeber were nights driving to his house and sword fighting with the rather large wooden swords we would fashion by hand. It was some good clean fun, that not only would give us a workout, but a lesson in pain. When someone slams what is basically a 2×4 fashioned into a sword against your hand because you weren’t quick enough to block or pary, you learn from your mistakes pretty damn quick.

Those where fun times when we would be out all hours of the night causing mischief, or playing video games at someone’s house. To this day, I can’t listen to Phil Collins’s “Face Vaule” CD without thinking about sitting on roof outside of my bedroom window on a summer’s night hand carving a sword with a hand planer. These were fun time in our lives. We were still in High School, and only worked part time for video game and pizza money. Chris, Greg and I all worked at the same video store, while the Bertman at the time worked for EB if memory serves.

All of this kind of comes full circle since Kelly tonight showed me an email that was forwarded to her about our 10 year high school reunion.

When you’re in high school, it seems like one of the worst times of your life. All the while your suffering through it, eveyone who is older then you is telling you that this is the best time of your life. But to you, the best time will be once you graduate and don’t have to go to school anymore.

However, 10 years later, I see what they mean.

Back then, you got to see all of your friends everyday. You guys hung our between classes, and after school. Nowadays, I’m lucky if I see my friends once every six months. Our lives have changed. Some of us are married, some have kids, and some even have both. Some have stayed in the area, while some have dropped off the map completely. While some of your best friends have stayed the same in all the great ways that made you so close back then, some sadly have not grown up since then in the way that to them, life is just a game.

Do I wish some of us kept in better contact? Sure I do. But your best friends in life could move 10,000 miles away and they’ll always be there right when you need them. Others will spend their lives living about 15 minutes away from you, and you’d never know it.

You’ll never lose your greatet friends. They’ll always find you when you most need them.

Feeling A Bit Better

After sleeping for 22 hours, I am feeling a bit better today. Although I still had a headache, chills, and a wee bit of achyness, I muddled through work.

This weekend is my first weekend working by myself in my new job. No, that’s not entirely true. I had to work last Tuesday all by myself since everyone else called off on me. But that’s a whole other story there. From what they have told me, I’ll pretty much be bored all weekend. So, in preparation, I’m going to bring a notebook with me and work on some ideas for my little project that’s gotten put on the back burner for the past few weeks.

Other then not feeling 100%, things are good. Jess and I are heading over to The Bertman’s hosue tonight so I can install a new DVD burner for him. He stopped up the store for a bit today and we got a chance to chat. Now that I only work every 3rd weekend, I’ll have to try and make some time to hang out with him, Kelly, and Meghan.

Well, I think it’s time to look for a small bite to eat and then head on over to The Bertman’s. Catch everyone later…

Home, Sick

I’ve been fighting off a rather nasty cold-thing now for about a good 2 weeks. Well, it finally caught up with me this morning.

The alarm went off this morning at around 5:30am, and I hoped into the shower. I’ve been going to bed really early the past few nights, and I’ve been sleeping like a dead person through the night. This is something that is odd for me since I usually stay up late and tend to wake up at least one throughout the night. Anyway, I was in the shower this morning, not feeling too well. All of the sudden, I got one of my infamous nose bleeds. It’s been a few years since I’ve had one of these, but those who know me, know what these can be like. Essentially, imagine if someone took a nice, 6 inch knife, and stuck it in your face. That’s a pretty good indication of how quickly the blood flows from my nose when I get one of these. When I do get one, it’s a sure precursor of me getting rather sick. After a good 20 minutes of bleeding uncontrollably in the shower, I was feeling extremely light headed and sick to my stomach from having swallowed quite a bit of blood. I got out of the shower, and called work to let hem know I won’t be coming in today. Technically, I may have been able to go in, but I was afraid that any heavy lifting that I would do today would make my nose start to bleed again, thus covering that nice product with pints of Twevman blood. Not a good thing for anyone involved. After calling off, I promptly went back to bed, and slept until 12:45pm.

Now that I am up and vertical, I think the threat of another bleed is rare. All I have to deal with now is a slight headache, and a think feeling in the back of my throat that won’t seem to go away.

That’s been my exciting day so far…how about you?

Not Dead Yet

Jesus, how long has it been since I last posted? By the looks of things it look like it’s been 15 days since my last post. Damn!

My absence can be explained in many different ways, but they all lead to one inevitable conclusion: I’ve been very busy.

Rather than writing a small book and detail everything that has gone in the past 2 + weeks, I’ll just summarize:

i/o Computers business has been excellent.

I started my new job at work.

That’s really about it.

I know you were hoping for more, but I really don’t want to write a book about the past 2 weeks. But, look for some new posts in the near future!
