Couldn’t Sleep Last Night

I finally got done ripping most of my CD collection last night. I think out of all my CDs (a few hundred) I have maybe 20 that I haven’t ripped due to various reasons. After getting them all ripped though, I couldn’t sleep. So, I decided to finally update my computer to Service Pack 2. While it did it’s whole load, unload, reboot thing, I went and layed down on the couch and listened to my iPod. I can honestly say that this was the first time I have really used my iPod like I have wanted to. I just laid there in the dark, and listened to pretty much my whole life in musical form. I went from the early 80′s when I was buying my first songs on 45s (talk to you parents if you have no clue what they are), to my grade school years, to junior high, right into the heart of high school, and pretty much to present day with a few roold of the magical click wheel. Finally, I started to feel myself nod off. At that point, I thought this would be a great time to head to bed. Curious, I looked at the time on the iPod’s clock. It was 4:49am. Yeah…. So, I decided that waking up Jess at this unGodly hour by climbing into bed would automatically get me a one way ticket to Painville, so I decided to camp out on the couch. Eventually, Lola woke me up this morning around 11:15am. No, I didn’t want to stay up that late, nor did I want to sleep in so much. But, on the other hand, I had a really cool time going down memory lane with my iPod last night.

I close tonight which should be an interesting night. I do believe I am closing with someone, but that is a moot point. I am off the next 2 days which means that I could care less what that place looks like when I leave there tonight. Everyone else loves to leave their messes for me because they know I will clean them up. Well, I could care less about what I leave for tomorrow, so there! (insert virtual raspberry here) >_<

On my days off this week I hope to pretty much finish cleaning up the cellar. Jess cleaned the upstairs yesterday and got all my tools down there for me. Now I can organize them and start making some sense out of everything. I was also hoping to go down our farm and shoot the gun Jess’s dad gave me last year, but that mostly depends on the weather. Oh year, I also want to do my taxes and do some wardriving with out new antenna that arrived today.

As for the now, I have to go get ready for work. Another fun night shift. Later…

Work, Work, Work

Things are picking up for i/o Computers, which means long nights and early mornings. Not that I am complaining. In fact, things are starting to pick up so, that JP and I have realized that we need to get together and have a ‘business meeting’ to lay down some stuff for the business and actually come up with a viable business model/plan. This may seem like a pain in the ass, but it’s a sign of growth, one that we could only hope for a year ago when we were starting to build this thing.

In fact, just this morning alone I had to return 3 business emails and I have to return 1 business phone call. That may not seem like much at all, but also keep in mind that I haven’t even started my day job yet. I’ll be doing that from 1-10pm today, and them probably more i/o stuff until about 2am.

In fact, I’m actually running late now, so this will be a short post. Later…

Monday Roundup

Ahhh….here we are – another Monday.

The weekend was pretty good. I opened up on Saturday, and went basically right from work to New Jersey for Jenn’s birthday party. I was beat from only getting about 4 hours of sleep the night before, so Jess was good enough to drive down while I took a nap listening to TWiT on my iPod. We had a pretty good time at the party hanging out with everyone. Although, I think my future sister-in-law is trying to kill me. Brandi made this wonderful cake for Jenn, and it was very dilicious. However, my stomach woke me up in the middle of the night yelling at me for eating it. I was a most delicious, rich, chocolate cake with a peanut butter topping on it. The cake was most excellent, but I think it was a wee bit too rich for my stomach to handle. By the time my alarm went off to go to work, my stomach had tied itself into a know so good it would have earned me a merit badge. So, looking no further foor another excuse, I called off from work yesterday. Then, I immediatly went back to be dfor another 3 hours. By the time I woke up, I felt good enough to actually get out of bed. After a few hours, my stomach had untied itself enough for me to eat. I loved that cake something fierce, but I don’t know if I should attempt more in the future. Only time will tell.

So, as I had yesterday off, we decided to geta few things done. Jess wanted to check out 2 printers for wedding invitations and a bridal shop. Here’s how it all went down. The first printing shop was closed with no hours posted, the second printing shop apparently doesn’t exist since there’s another printing shop there with a totally different name, and the bridal shop, from what we were told, closed a few years ago. So there you have it. So, you’ve been totally defeated and you have the rest of the day off. What are two young kids to do?? Go for lunch at A&W!!!! (ok, it wasn’t quite that exciting)

Anyhow, after lunch we went grocery shopping. And, as you can see here, I stocked up on Pepsi for the week.

Last night we basically just hung out. Jess took a 2 hour nap while I worked on some graphics for i/o Computers. After that, we made some pizza for dinner, Jess played Oregon Trial on my Mac whiel I installed Dungeon Siege. After dinner, I sat down and played Dungeon Siege while she watched ‘Maria Full of Grace’ in the living room. Later on in the night, we had a to make a semi-late night run to my parent’s house to get thread since Jess was hemming a pair of pants but didn’t have the right color thread. After we came abck and seh finished, we went tinto the bedroom and watched some TV until we both fell asleep. All in all I’d say a pretty good day.

Apparently overnight, we had what some would call a ‘winter storm’. We got a little bit of snow and some nice ice to go along with it. In fact, I have to get ready soon and go out there and shovel it all. Oh the joy in that!!

I close tonight and tomorrow, but after that I have Wednesday and Thursday off. I’m not really too sure what’s going on since I do have quite a bit to do and I’m going to see what I can fit in where. Either way, I hope to get a little gaming in.

Well, time to go get dressed and shovel the snow. Later…

Computer Upgrades

When I came home to eat last night at 6pm, I noticed there was a small box in the yard that ahd not been there when i had left for work. It was my RAM! From the violently strong winds we had yesterday, it must have totally blown off of the porch. Needless to say, when I got home at 10:15pm, I immediately went into the computer room and installed it.

It works like a charm!

From what I had been reading I could expect to see about a 50% increase in application speed. I would have to say that is pretty acccurate as things now load up and navigate a lot better. So, right now the only 2 bottlenecks I really have on my system is my processor (Intel Celeron 2.6gHz) and my internet connection (dial-up). I hope to remedy the processor situation by the time I get married, and as for the broadband….there’s really no set date for that.

Since I have more RAM to do things with my system screaming at me, I decided to play for a bit. I did play Doom 3 last night for about 2 minutes and it was a lot smoother then it ever was. That made me most happy. After that went to play Guild Wars. It needed to dowload some update files, and by the time it got done with that, I was honestly too tired to play. So, I went to bed. We’ll see how I faire tonight since I am off tomorrow, and maybe get in some GW action when I come home.

The one thing I did install this morning was something I found a while ago online called Flyakite OSX. It’s basically a shell/skin replacement for Windows XP emulates the OSX experience. I just got done installing it about 10 minutes ago, and it seems pretty nice so far. Here’s a screen cap from my main monitor.

I want to do some more tweaking of it, but it seems pretty kick ass from the get-go. I just laoded up Trillian Pro and it even installed a nice OSX skin for that as well. It’ll take a few days to sell me on the whole package.

Well, it looks like it’s about time to get ready to go to work again. Another fun night in the Land of Retail. Later….

Dark and Rainy

Today is a very gloomy day. When I got up at 8:30am, it looked as if the sun had forgotten to rise this morning. The wind and rain have been unrelenting, and it’s dropped almost 20 degrees in the past 2 hours. Today is just one of those days you want to grab a nice DVD box set, and lay in bed watching TV all day.

While Jess was making dinner last night, I was playing around in Photoshop and changed the header graphic a bit. If you don’t see the new graphic with the iPod, just hold down shift and click on the refresh button.

For once, not too much is going on and I rather like that after the past week. The last 2 nights I’ve some home from work to Jess and we’ve just relaxed and watched TV together. You know, like normal people do.

I got my tracking number for my RAM today, and it should be arriving here tomorrow. Even though the UPS site says today, I’m more inclined to believe that I’ll be seeing it tomorrow night when I come home. Which is fine by me, as I have all day Friday off. I do have to do a quick video card install for i/o Computers, but that won’t take me too long.

Speaking of i/o Computers, my man JP has been working on a ton of shit lately. I really can reviel too much as it’s not all complete yet, but let’s just saw very shortly we’ll have not one but 2 new storefronts to sell out of online. It should be really cool once we get everything done.

It’s funny. For the past few days I have been wanting to sit down and play some video games. This morning, I had4 hours to do whatever I wanted to do before I needed to get ready for work. I thought a littly gaming would be nice, but I found myself not wanting to load up a game. Instead, I did some personal research online, some reading, and got all my tax information together. I know people always told me things will change the older you get. But me not wanting to play some video games??? Maybe I just have bird flu or something.

Getting Back To “Normal”

Now that everything has been said and done regarding my grandfather, life is starting to return to whatever it is we call ‘normal’.

Jess and I went out Saturday after the funeral since the last thing I wasnted to do after 3 days of sitting in a house was go back and sit in another house. We had a nice night together. We went and looked at some more wedding cakes, had a bite to eat at Wendy’s, walked around the mall for a bit, and ended up finding our wedding bands. All in all, a very good night.

Although, what the hell was up with the weather on Saturday? When we woke up it was nice and alsmot 60 out. By noon, it was cooling down and raining. And by about 3pm it was feakin’ snowing like a mother! Very weird weather indeed.

I returned to work today for the first time in about 2 weeks. It was actually a bit odd getting ready this morning. When I got there, I wasn’t quite sure what had gotten done or what needed to get done. It was kind of like my first day all over again. it was quite unsettling when everyone who saw me for the first time said, “oh thank God you’re back!”. It makes me wonder what goes on (or doesn’t go on is more like it) when I’m not around.

On a very happy note I did something tonight that I have been wating to do for about 2 years now. I finally broke down and ordered more RAM for my computer. I was editing a rather large audio file (about 890 mb) on Sunday, and my computer was just lagging like crazy. So, when I came home tonight I made the decision and ordered a 1 gig stick of RAM for my machine. Hopefully, it should arrive by Friday (my day off!!).
