It would appear that the old layout of the site is only working about 50% of the time. So, I changed the theme right now to the deafult WordPress theme until I can get a better look at why this is going on. It’s almost midnight, and I don’t have time to do that now. So, it’s going to have to do for the next 24-48 hours. Oh well…

Home Improvement Day
I quite literally spent the entire day working on the house. First, I took out all of the air conditioners (and broke a window in the process–oops!). They are now stowed away downstairs until spring.
Then, I went into the basment and sealed up any air leaks with Great Stuff expandable foam. After that, I put in a new dryer vent since ours kidna broke the other night. While in the vinicity of the washer and dryer, I put up this nice hanging rack that I turned into Jess’s laundry center. She loves it!
And, since I was down there putting stuff up, I decided to clean off my workbench. Please note: this is the first time I have done this in the 5 years I have been living here.
And since I was down in the basment taking pictures, I thought I might as well take a picture of my new pressure washer.
All in all it was a good day. In fact, I saw this and it made me realize that for the first time, this house is truly a home.

New System
Well, my first attempt at blocking comment spam did not work at all. So, tonight I updated my WordPress installation. I’m also going to taking some other steps with the old posts (they get the most)in the next few days to hopefully curb all of this.
I hate the fact that I have to do this. DAMN YOU SPAMMERS!!

Comments
After doing quite a bit of research, I think I may have discovered a decent way of allowing comments on here once again. There is a new form you have to fill out when you leave a comment. The answer is pretty obvious, but remember that it is case sensitive!!
And if this doesn’t work, I have also discovered an very easy and quick wasy of deleting comment spam by access the MySQL Dbase directly and deleting them from there.
From this post on, comments will be turned on.
Let’s see how this little experiment goes…

Cough/Hack
Still sick as a dog. Since I called in sick yesterday, I of course had to go in today. Unfortunately, I felt about the same as I did yesterday. But, we actually had more then 1 person working in my department all day so I was able to take it a bit easy. What a welsome change.
I actually got a chance to sit down and play some video games tonight. I put in about an hour in Guild Wars and just got done with an hour in Doom 3. I hate to say it, but neither game really held my interest much. Maybe it’s just me being sick.
I picked up a nice bag full of goodies tonight from work to winterize the house tomorrow. Got some new door sweeps. vinyl door seals, Great Stuff expanding foam, duct tape, and while not totally related, a new dryer vent since ours kinda crapped out last night.
I wish I had a little more to talk about but it’s just been one of those days. I’m really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow and working on the house. There’s something about staying inside and working on a nice, cold fall day — especially when it’s a Sunday!

Starting To Feel Better
Well, I ended up spenind most of the day in front of the computer coding some more stuff for the site. I’m sure you notice a little bit of a difference in the look of the site. It’s been a while really coded anything for the site and it felt really good to do so. That, and I felt so horrible anything more then sitting at my desk was not an option.
I started to feel a little more human around 2:30pm, so much so that I took a shower and quickly ran a few things down to my parent’s house. A few minutes after I got home, Jess came home and we had dinner. Much to my surprise, I actually had an appetite. We had dinenr and watched “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy”. Not that bad of a flick. All I have to say is that Marvin and the ship’s computer were my favorite characters. After that my body still ached and my head still pounded, but I just couldn’t stand laying around anymore. So, I went into the basement, cleaned off my workbench, and put my new power washer together.
Right now I’m ripping a few DVDs to store on the network so that I can play them on any machine when I am coding or gaming. You know, the few choice movie that you like enough that you can just listen to ratehr than watch. Since quality is not as much of an issue was size, I’m ripping them directly into ISO format with 62% compression so that I can just mount them with Alcohol 120%. I have a program that will rip a DVD right to DivX, but I really have to sit down and tweak it one day. Right now to rip an 18 minute cartoon episode, it takes about 2 hours and the file size is still 2 gb. With the method I am using now, I can get a whole moive to about 1.5 gb. For now, that will do.

Sick Day
Well, I finally broke down and called in sick. I feel like shit, I have the sick time saved up, I figured I might as well use it. I don’t feel as guilty as I should since when I called in I got this douche bag of a manager that I really can’t stand. So, if I pissed him off by calling, that just all the more fun for me!

Not Feeling So Good
Woke up this morning with a sore throat, and upset stomach, and a nice little headache. Given the fact that I am supposed to close alone tonight, I am seriously thinking about using a sick day. I have more then enough saved up, the only problem is that I feel really guilty when I call off. Call it a sickaness, a work ethic, or a conscience, but no matter what you call it, it’s damned annoying!

The Winds of Change
Fall is in full effect right now, which I love. It maybe gets up to around 60 in the day, adn then down into the 40s at night. In fact, right now it’s not even 50 outside. Why can’t it be like this year round?
Work is work. Our new department manager called off yesterday, totally screwing us. Thank you. We got this new kind from the lumber department. I thought he would be ok but the kid is a total fuck-up. All he wants to do his hang out with his buddies in lumber and shoot the shit all night. Totally useless. Then, we had to get a reach lift to get some garbage bags down. While we were about to head into the aisle, this assclown decides he going to be cute and make like he’s going to run over a head cashier. She calles him a jerk, and trying to act all cool he zips into the aisle. The only problem is that he cut it too short and totally crushed a 3M wooden shadowbox display. And this point I was fuming and he knew it. Later on he came over and apologized, but that still doesn’t me he can act like a 5 years old. Sometimes I think working by yourself is really better.
In good news though we got not one, not two, but 3 discs from Netflix yesterday. When I had originally opened up the account we decided to do the one disc at a time plan since we didn’t know how much time we would have to watch them. Well, after 3 weeks of only getting 1 movie per week we upped it to the three disc at a time plan and yesterday was our first bounty. We watched “Roger and Me” last night and I really liked it. Not many people like Michael Moore, but I think the guy is as brilliant as he his ballsy. If you have no clue what I am talking about, go rent one of his films.
It’s Jess’s turn to be sick today. She called off and is in fact, still in bed. I have to wonder if I gave her the bug I had Monday and Tuesday. I hope I didn’t, but when you live with someone and share just about everything, you tend to do things like that.
I talked to Jess last night about my post from yesterday. Even though she hasn’t read it, I was telling her about how I miss doing the comic and playing video games. She then told me that I do deserve to play more games and that I should really start setting aside some time for myself to sit down and play some games. God I love her! I was going to play Guild Wars last night but we ended up watching the movie and after that I did some coding for the backend of this site until about 2:30am. After that I was too tired to even think about loading up Guild Wars. Maybe tonight…
As for the new comic, I was going to work out some story outlines and some more character development at work last night, but with the new manager calling off, I had to play catch-up all night. We got down with everything at about 9:57pm, which left us with a whole whopping 3 minutes. So, I’m closing with 2 other guys tonight, one being that new kid and the other e very seasoned veteran who I have totaly faith in. So, we’ll see if I can get some notes and sketches jotted down tonight.
And unfortunately it’s about that time for me to hop in the shower and get my ass to work. Later…
