I have not taken any medicine in about 24 hours, and I can honestly say that aside from a wee bit of congestion, I feel as close to normal as I ever was.
We’re starting to come into the time of year that I love and hate. Starting this weekend, this are going to start to get hectic, and a little slower. What the hell do I mean by that?? Well, allow me to explain…
Starting with the weekend, we set the clock back an hour. What that means is that the days get shorter, and I get an extra hour of sleep (yay!!). Then, we have All Hallows Eve (Halloween) on Monday, which to mean, starts the Holiday season. Starting Novemeber first, we are in the “Christmas Push”, meaning you’ll start hearing countdowns on how many shopping days are left, and the huge sales will begin to spring up. This is where time makes a weird shift. Since the days are shorter, you don’t really spend anytime outside anymore. Pretty much since it’s going to be dark and cold out, most people spend their evenings inside, most likely watching TV. And when people do venture out, it’s usually to the mall or some other shopping venue to try and get their Christmas shopping taken care of. People who work in retail (your truely) start to pull their hair out, and the poor, poor bastards in “normal retail” start working the insane hours we work year round. (Just so you know, we’re open from 6am-10pm Mon-Sat and 8am-7pm on Sun) So business gets nuts, shopping increases, but you find that your downtime has slowed because therer’ nothing really to do but vege-out. And the closer we get to Christmas, the worse it gets. There’s traffic jams galore, people being ruder then they ever have been for really no good reason, and the ever popular, “WHAT DO YOU MEAN CHROSTMAS IS TOMORROW?? HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?” syndrome.
Of course, that’s mostly the bad parts. I personally like the slowdown parts. Like coming home from a long day of work, to a nice house lit with Christmas lights. Walking inside, smelling some fresh baked goods (hint Jess…), haveing anice dinner, changing to something very warm and confortable, and then sitting in front of the Christmas tree in the dark, perhaps watching it snow outside. I love the festiveness of Christmas. I love the lights, the sounds, and the smells. The people are assholes, but I try not to let that bother me too much. And then everything culminates to one day. You may think it’s Christmas, but it’s not. Everything we do from here on out will finally come to an end on New Years’s Day. With the dawn of the new year, everybody seems to go back to normal. Trees come down, lights go off, and people are suddenly left with every evening with nothing to do. No shopping to be done, no gifts to wrap, the traffic to battle. This is also one of my favorite times since I can usualy work on a multitude of projects and not worry that I should be doing something else. There is nothing else to do until spring when the grass starts to grow again. All you ahve to do is spend some time statying warm with that one that you love.
In truth, I never really intended to write all of that. I guess it all just sorta started coming out. I think that’s more then enough for one post. Later…
