Sick G33k

Yes, it is true…I am sick. In fact, I came home from work early today because of it. I wasjust going to call off but I only have 3 hours of sick time left, so I went to work for about 4 hours and then took the rest of the time as sick time. So essentially, I don’t feel guilty because I went to work and I get paid for 90% of my time anyway. As soon as I came home I had a ncie big bowl of tomato soup to help my sore throat. It’s still killing me right now so I just made a hot cup of tea to drink.

Even though I am sick, that doesn’t mean I can sit here and lean my Linux! In fact, I just installed my first Linux app…Firefox!! In fact, that’s where I’m typing this from right now. You may not thing it’s a big deal to install something in Linux, but for my first time, I think it is. Now…to try and install Gaim!

Maybe We Can Be Friends

There’s a history between Linux and me. We just don’t get along at all. It’s gone as far as to erase both of my hard drives years ago in my main system, to just freezing randomly, to giving me boot error after boot error. But, one of my goals this year was to finally learn Linux well enough that I can use it and feel comfortable doing so.

Two nights ago I created a new partition on my 250gb drive and installed SUSE Linux. I booted into it, and promptly shut it down 10 minutes later fully frustrated. I have finally resolved my 2 biggest issues so far, those being a messed up resolution and having a winmodem. I found a fix to my resolution problem after stepping back and realizing I had one setting wrong, and the winmode solution was overcome by installing a proxy server on my server and going through that machine and onto the Internet.

So, I’m running Linux right now. In fact, this is where I’m typing this right now. I’m on my main box in my Linux partition, getting onto the internet though my 233mHz Pentium II server. Not too shabby. We’ll see how long it takes me to delete this partition and swear I’ll never touch Linux again. Afterall, I did install a fresh copy of PartitionMagic before installing the Penguin.

Now that I have internet access, time to download Firefox and Gaim!!!

Snow, Rain and Ice

Over the past few days, we have gotten a fair amount of weather. It all started out as ice, moving to rain, then back to ice, then to snow, ice again, and then ending yesterday with rain. Tomorrow promises more of the same. This wouldn’t be so bad sine it is January after all, but come Monday, it’s supposed to be damn near 50 degrees!! What the hell?? This is been some crazy winter weather so far this year!

I’m slowing starting to sink into my own little “winter mode”. What this amounts to is me spending even more time on my computer doing various computer-like things. But then again, isn’t that what I do year round anyway??

On a weirder note…those if you who know me well know that my life tends to go in 2 year cycles. Two years ago I picked up my nice little mud-encrusted Macintosh Classic II. This was my first and only Mac. But, this year, in a few weeks in fact, I should be getting a nice little Macintosh Performa handed down to me. Very sweet. Now if I can only find somone who wnats to get rid of their old Powerbook!

All Gone

Well, aside from a few small boxes left on my kitchen table, Christmas 2004 has been taken down, packed up, and put into storage for another 11 months. This was a strange one this year as I never really got into the swing of things. I was literally so busy I didn’t have time to sit down and enjoy some of the little things about the Holidays. Like what you ask? Like I didn’t get a chance to listen to one Christmas carol/song outside of the crap they play at the mall. I didn’t get a chance to watch one Christmas movie at all. It’s been tradition for me to watch Patrick Stewart’s “A Christmas Carol” while wrapping my presents, but this year it was “The Fifth Element”. Weird. Also, I never really sat down with Jess like I wanted to, with all the lights off, and just admire the tree. And to really make things weird this year, apparently my outside Christmas lights disappeared into thin air, thus I had no lights outside this year. But, with Jess livining here next year and both of us spending a hell of a lot less time on the road, I think things will be quite kick ass!
